About Inauspicious Periods

In Vedic astrology, certain time periods each day are considered inauspicious for starting important activities. These periods occur when specific planetary energies (Rahu, Ketu, Gulika) are dominant. While these periods should be avoided for new beginnings, they can be used for routine tasks.

Rahu Kalam (राहुकालम्)

Rahu Kalam lasts for 1.5 hours (90 minutes) each day. It occurs at different times depending on the weekday and sunrise time.

Important Notes

  • • These periods are calculated based on sunrise to sunset (daytime hours only)
  • • The duration of each muhurta varies by season and location
  • • Rahu Kalam should be avoided for all auspicious activities
  • • If unavoidable, start important work before or after these periods
  • • These periods can be used for: routine tasks, exercise, cleaning, study (not new learning)
